Taverna della Gelosia in Ostuni
The region of Puglia is renowned for its cuisine. The locals historically became very adept at using few ingredients but making the most of the flavours. Food here is simple with the emphasis on the use of the freshest of local produce and ingredients. The wine scene here focuses very much on local indigenous grape varieties, such as Primitivo and Negroamaro but also some ancient varieties which are grown only here in this immediate area.
Eating In
Every room has a small kitchen area which is perfect for preparing light snacks, lunch or a simple evening meal. Each kitchen is stocked with the basics, olive oil (of course), tea, coffee, sugar, salt, washing up liquid etc… everything that you need to get you going. On request we can stock other items for you. There are many local shops who pride themselves on selling quality fresh produce, cheeses, meat, fish, pasta etc… and you are very welcome to help yourself to whatever is in season in our own vegetable garden.
We serve a continental breakfast daily. And if you’re just not a morning person, we can bring a breakfast basket to your suite.
During the day and evening there is an honesty bar which that is stocked with local wine, beers, fruit juice and water. We also stock a wider range of local wines and spirits for those who just don’t want the evening to end.
Eating Out
With food being such an important part of Italian and Pugliese culture it would be a shame for you to visit this area and not sample some of the local restaurants. There is a huge variety in the local towns of Carovigno, Ostuni and also down on the coast. Something for all tastes and budgets from a simple pizza through to Michelin Star establishments. There are too many to list here but we provide a detailed guide to local restaurants in your suite and are very happy to make recommendations and table reservations for you as appropriate.
